Twitchy Curtains – Audio Trail Guided Walks
August 11 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Join this guided walk to experience a mini-theatre experience on the high street -Barry characters from the 19th century to the present day!
This immersive digital audio trail will transport you to another era in Barry’s past. Hear the stories that spread like wildfire along Holton Road and Thompson Street from 1890 to 2020, relayed by some well-meaning local characters, with not one ounce of exaggeration – promise!
Your guide will introduce each story to you and explain who the characters are. Some were real-life Barry characters and some have been created with a dash of creative licence!
Stickers with QR codes are placed along the route – in shop windows, on benches and even in taxis! There are 15 stories in all. A quick scan will give you a truly immersive, up close experience with some unforgettable characters.
You will need a mobile device to scan the QR codes and then you may choose to listen to the Welsh or the English recording. Please bring your own stereo headphones (although we will have a few spare sets in case) so that you can appreciate the immersive background sounds such as a horse and cart trotting down Holton Road behind you or the 80s music playing in the cafe!
Meet at the memorial outside the Civic Offices on Holton Road, and the tour ends at King Square. Tour length approx 1 hour.
This is a family friendly event and appropriate for all ages from around age 8 upwards.
