David March Solo Exhibition: Palaces and Places of Wales at Art Central Gallery

April 22 - June 3

Painter David March lives in the Vale of Glamorgan. His interest in art began at an early age, “At the age of four, I was making crude drawings of the dog fights, going on during the day over London during the second world war”. He went on to train as a fine artist at St Martin’s School of Art, in London. During his studies he spent a lot of time at the National Gallery, where he studied the work of the Old Masters. This early interest has significantly influenced his paintings today, as can be seen in the exhibition.

David spent much of his life working as an illustrator and commercial artist, in a Fleet Street art studio.  During this time in his career, David produced large painted murals for national events, such as the Ideal home exhibition, boat, and formula one shows.  David’s career has taken him to interesting and unusual places in the arts. He has restored Victorian Murals in Royal Palaces and created large scale illustrations for the leisure industry.

Having moved from London to Wales, David now enjoys painting in his studio. He loves to paint the landscapes and castles of Wales, flowers, and portraits, undertaking commissions as requested. “I enjoy working on human and animal portraiture as well as landscapes. I love living in Wales, it’s such a beautiful place to live – the stunning landscapes make it a painter’s paradise.”

David hopes that visitors to the exhibition will recall and re-live their own journeys, through the iconic Welsh landscapes and places he has painted. He says, “I’m hoping that visitors will enjoying the process of looking at paintings and are drawn into the work, recognising some of the iconic parts of Wales”.

The exhibition opens at Art Central Gallery, on Saturday 22 April 2023 from 1-3pm. David will be talking about his work on Saturday 27 May 2023, from 11am-1pm. This event has been organised by Art Central Friends (ACF).
